Crows 2, Chogs 3

A goalscoring cameo from Fungus sealed a desperate come from behind win with the season on the line. Two down after quarter of an hour and with their young keeper in amazing form, the Chogs refused to lie down and were rewarded with a second win in the past nine games.
The Crows scored two from long range as the 3-2-3-2 lineup failed to mark up sufficiently under attack but a change to 4-4-2 brought more solidity at the rear. While the Crows ran the game around their three young 'uns, they were vulnerable at the back and gave us some good openings. GD sizzled a shot towards the top corner and thought he had scored his first goal of the season, only to have it tipped away. Still we maintained the pressure and Andy got us on the board with a fantastic strike which left the keeper flailing. While that goal gave us confidence Balgownie came close again, striking the bar before the break.
Injuries were again causing concern - Phil and GP succumbing to ankle problems and sending Fungus to his car to get the kit he had packed just in case.
We got the best possible start to the second half, however. Gary J got free of the defence to get one on one with the keeper but stumbled over ther ball under pressure from a defender. We managed a crack on goal which was cleared of the line but Gary retrieved it and cut back a perfect ball to GD who hammered in the goal which had eluded him for too long.
Yet another draw wouldn't be enough and we responded as Fungus entered the fray. Andy got free on the left, drew the keeper and sent in a pass across goal. Despite his limiting groin injury Fungus gave it everything and got to the ball in time to ram it home. He could have added a second soon after and Sean missed another chance to give us a two-goal cushion, dinking the ball over the advancing keeper but also over the crossbar.
As time ran out, their hard kicking keeper came up to take a freekick at goal inside our half. It was the first time he mis-hit one all day and as we scrabbled to take advantage of his field position he came across and hacked down a Chog. The ref gave a freekick but incredibly no card.
Andy got involved in a tangle with the oppition defenders and picked up a yellow for a late challenge on their keeper. Gary J came off with a swollen knee and thankfully the ref called it off after two minutes of injury time, with the coach cowering behind the dugout too afraid to watch the closing seconds.
Well done guys. Jamberoo this week and another three points a must.
Please check in with your injury updates.

I'll be in Townsville so won't make training but will be back for Saturday's game against Jamberoo. Should be fun so long as we don't have that blind old coot for a ref again.

I'm good for training and Saturday. Well Done Boys!!

Bad news for GP. Has damaged ankle ligaments and is out for at least 4 weeks..

I think, considering the knocks and bruises and the fact it looks like it might rain forever that we give training a miss this week and rest the muscles ahead of another can't lose game this weekend.
Pass it on.

This is where we love it guys. Win at all costs. Play for the full 90 mins, but lets start strong. We can beat absolutely anyone. We played some sparkling football on the weekend - and you can't defend that. Simple passes, triangles, making space. We created so many chances and will convert this Saturday!! We are far too good to dip out.

anyone here how other results went? sorry thzero i know you want us just to focus only on what we can control and take it 1 match at a time and make sure we turn up to play and all of that . . . just interested that's all

hey sean great post to pump us all up - nearly as good as thzero's speech pre-match on saturday - there is a whisper that he had an extra long shower saturday morning as he was rehearsing what he hoped would be a season defining speech - if the Finesmaster finally gets his a into g and updates the fines i'm sure that will rate a mention as it was a good speech

Hey
Anyone notice I'm still the second top scorer!

FM, is the bowlo booked for the presentation night?

Before the iafa site went down I saw that Old Boys drew with IFS (1-all?) and that Russell Vale and Shellharbour also drew (3-all?).

Makes it interesting.

joint 2nd top scorer....just give me 10 more minutes to shut you up.

TH10 said...

Hey Fingus
You can have the rest of the season off.

TH10 said...

You too Fungus

I do believe that I am also 2nd top scorer, and am now entering my 'end-of-season goal scoring blitz' zone.

You both realise the countback is strike-rate( ie goals per games played)? Come on are either of you good enough to shut me up????

m17 said...

I reckon Andy may have 3 too. How many has Ant got? Nobody make any smart remarks about how many he should have.

TH10 said...

Andy is on 2. Ant has one less than he should have.

I'm predicting a late charge by Becks now that he's found his range!

this is what the blogs all about - all this sledging is great - and thzero you're being rather kind with only 1

Anonymous said...

i can see the backline against jamberoo now . . . graeme d on the left, sean and fergus in the middle with andy on the right - he's approved the engraving of '2nd top goal scorer' trophy now

m17 said...

whos sledging?

TH10 said...

Yes, well Kev is on two but have noticed where he's been playing lately.
Ant, did I once hear that you weere the NSW U13 schools goalkeeper?

m17 said...

Probably when he was 18, wouldn’t be the first time he’s played in a comp he wasn’t eligible for.

Anonymous said...

c'mon thzero, lets not go back to the debate about who started the war on iraq, but lets just say I reckon with kev as sweeper an dme in goals i reckon we'd do a job

Anonymous said...

what about twinkle toes? he's on 2 but does it count when you score with a pass?

TH10 said...

There is no doubt in my mind that if our forwards were in defence and vice versa we would concede no goals nor score any...
Would you agree Dave?

Anonymous said...

Ant, how many did you score in the summer sevens grand Final?

Phil you got me . . . from my memory only your 2nd post (at least only the 2nd post you've put your name to) and you got me . . . my only come back is that i was carrying a shoulder injury into the final from carrying you blokes for the entire season - not that I'm bitter at all

The only reason I went away for so long THZero was to ensure a competitive strike-rate. A couple of doubles and a hat-trick will not only see me snare the outright golden boot title, but also make history as the only back-to-back CHOTY of all time. Unless, and who would know now that the voting thing has gone silent, the whole thing is rigged, and an outrageous outsider like Social Dave bags the coveted black-and-yellow striped jacket.

looks like its time for the 1000-1 shots 2 rise to the occasion!!!!c'mon gd you have plenty of time to outscore them,Ian

Its now time to speak, well at least write my comments. Can someone tell me what position I'm playing on Saturday, sounds like we've got the back line picked, so can I play up front. The backs will hold the line but will our forwards break the Jamberoo defence and make us proud??
Sounds like a job for the Irish double act up front Fergus.....

Forgot to mention 3rd best defensive record and 3rd worst scoring record, do I need to continue!

TH10 said...

Ian, I love the way you say it's time for GD to rise to the occasion - it's time to back yourself and stop pussyfooting around with that left peg!

Anonymous said...

thzero,i preferred to keep the missed opportunities out of the equation!!!ian

Anonymous said...

what about his right peg also???

Anonymous said...

ps gd was only an example of those to rise to the occasion!particularly as the monkey is now off the back!ian

so harsh fm!the legs are only for keeping me upright although at times they struggle with that let alone scoring goals.time for one off the head i think!ian
