Coastal Hogs 6, Uni Gangrenes 2

Resplendent in shiny new shirts and featuring three of our four off-season signings, the Coastal Hogs got season two underway with a 6-2 demolition of Uni Gangrenes at home on Saturday.
There was nothing new about the sluggish start as we conceded the opening goal inside the opening 15 minutes but after a bit of yelling and reorganisation we got our act togehter to impose ourselves on a team labouring without a sub in the first half.
The rotation system seemed to work well for the Hogs, with 16 keen (if not completely healthy) players running hard and benefiting from short rests. Sean , with his fourth goal in as many Hogs games, levelled the scores when put through one on one with Uni's keeper, who stood on his line like a statue. Goals from Ant and Ian - the latter shrouded in controversy after the ref Greg Rendell rightly called Ian onside - gave us a 3-1 margin at halftime. The next goal was always going to be decisive and when Fergus dinked his shot past the keeper after a delightful through ball the Uni spirits flagged. Ant and Fergus added a second each and both could have finished with hat-tricks while Ian also whistled a shot just wide of the far post. While Uni conceded six in their opening game, against Jamberoo, and look unlikely to contend for the finals, we did all that could be expected in a dominant performance.
Don't forget to get onto the stats centre to vote for your player of the match and please get on to the comment section to leave your verdict on our first game for 2008.
Finally, if anyone took photos of the game, or the team beforehand, please email them to Tony to post here.

Comment from FM in my role as FM:

Well boys we have not hit a couple of milestones - firstly we now have hot $100 of cold hard cash in the fines tin ($102 has ben collected and thanks to all who threw some coins, and in fergus' instance notes, into the tin) As I said I'll continue to bring the tin to each game (not training cause I'll forget) Secondly we have hit the double century mark in terms of fines and for the record we're not too far from the triple century (guessing we'll get there this weekend at RV)

Again I hope all see the fun I'm trying to do with this. I know TH10 made a comment at training session #1 that he'd like to see a figure go to the juniors, I suggested we use it foir either an end of season trip (eg: Kangaroo Valley) or at the very least it will go towards an end of season get together. Again it's a lot about taking the piss and doing it in a light hearted manner. It's obviously easy to do it when we win so convincingly, but we'll do it again even if we lose 6-2, hopefully we'll just bring out the lighter side of the hogs on the coast.

I will from now on need much more assistance from my fellow youngsters in fergus & matt and will be talking with them and ensuring the have their eyes and ears on the case at hand.

In the left hand side click on fines and you can then click on totals - this shows all individual amounts of fines and also payments (if I haven't got your payment correct from saturday let me know) but then you can click on each persons name to see what they have been fined for since day 1

Comment from FM in my role as striker:

Had a ball guys - obviously great winning so well and even scoring a couple but it was fun for me. Pulled up a little better than expected and maybe some could say cause I didn't do any running, but was worried about a rolled ankle that i did twice and put it down to the boots so will have to go shopping in the coming weeks. I like the way we are doing the rotations and whilst I don't think anyone made their full 15 minutes think it will work well with the 3 just sorting it out themselves with the 15 minutes an overriding rule (hey we might get fit by the end of all of this)

Obviously hurts when you don't have a sub or at least a sub that turns up 15 minutes into the 2nd half and also hurts when your goalkeeper height meant he should have been riding at Randwick on Saturday rather than playing at Helensburgh Oval Number 2, but hey we could only play agains twho they put there and I reckon we did really well.

Looking forward to playing on the number 1 ground as that ground is just an accident waiting to happen with the amount of divots all over the place (and even chasing a little red ball around that particular ground for the past 8 years doesn't get you used to the divots and holes)

Great job guys, glad we're now actually playing and looking forward to Wednesday night when we can start thinking soccer all over again.

Thanks FM...
Here's a few nominations to kick off some debate.
Best goal: Ant's second, an absolute cracker with his right foot. Are you right or left footed? I still have no idea.
Best shot which failed to go in ... Close between mine from Dave's cutback or Greaeme P's thunderous, murderous, rumbling second half effort which the Randwick jockey somehow managed to stop (him) from being pushed back into the goal..Um, tight call that one!
Worst decision: The offside flag stuck up by Brandman. Sure I was in an offside position but as I was coming back without going near the ball and Ian was steaming through from onside it was a definite goal. Gave Greg Rendell some grief tho!
Best comeback: After I played a ball into space for Shane and said "why didn't you run." "Because I can't run..."
Best listening to advice: After Brandman's half time call to get more with we stayed glued to the right touchline for the opening quarter hour of the second half.
Worst miss: Graeme Phillipson's of course.

Great contribution from the new guys and hopefully Matt gets to strut his stuff next week. Need a bit more work on our triangles, but all-in-all a sound first up effort.

PS/ 6 goals from the last 4 games.

Sorry Sean, it's hard to keep track of the stats and facts while playing as well. You are on fire

Ant and Roo
I think we were having a convo about how the bye should be no points no score and you guys said it didn't matter... What if there's a washout on the weekend one team has the bye. The bye team clocks three points and 3 goals and everyone else gets nothing and no replayed game... Now, do you see what I mean??? Took me a while to get it out.

And a damn fine job you do Tone.

Cheers,

Sean

Tony, *every* team will get two byes, so that will even itself out. I'm assuming for a washed out game it will be given as a 0-0 draw (or similar).

Now..who voted 4 times for the same three players? (Dave, Fergus and Anthony). It's *possible* that four different people all voted for those three within a two minute spell, but very unlikely!

If there is four people who have voted that way kindly let me know else I'll be scrubbing three of those votes!

Am I going to have to give you all a password to vote or can you stop being so over zealous? :)

K
